A beautiful and tender discussion on Mary the Mother of Jesus and our spiritual Mother, this is the twelth in a series of lectures on the Catholic Catechism recorded in 1965 by Archbishop Fulton J Sheen in the privacy of his own study. A master communicator, Fulton Sheen recorded this insightful overview of the teaching of the Holy Catholic Church.
Our Lord “was born of the Virgin Mary.” The Church did not believe in the virgin birth because the Gospels recorded it but already believed it before the Gospels were written. No one would have written of the virgin birth if the Apostles hadn’t already taught it. In the Scriptures the word “brother” can mean a relative or friend. Our Lord chose to be born through human purity so that he would not need redemption but would be our Redeemer.
