This talk on the Mass is the thirtieth in a series of lectures on the Catholic Catechism recorded in 1965 by Archbishop Fulton J Sheen in the privacy of his own study and first broadcast under the title 'Life is Worth Living'. A master communicator, Fulton Sheen recorded this insightful overview of the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church.
The Eucharist may be considered a sacrament and a sacrifice. Our Lord was both priest and victim — He offered Himself and gave His own life. The Mass is the commemoration and reenactment of Christ’s death on the Cross and its application of His sacrifice to us. His death purchased our salvation. When the priest offers Mass he is merely the instrument of Christ.
