Concerning the Sacraments of the Church and how they act as a channel of Grace in our lives, this talk on marriage difficulties is the fortieth in a series of lectures on the Catholic Catechism recorded in 1965 by Archbishop Fulton J Sheen in the privacy of his own study and first broadcast under the title 'Life is Worth Living'. A master communicator, Fulton Sheen recorded this insightful overview of the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church.
When married life becomes dull, one has not hit the bottom of life but the bottom of one’s ego. When there is discontent, God is reminding us that the perfect love we crave is not here but in heaven with Him. Love, which began with pleasure and self-satisfaction, changes into love for God’s sake. An unhappy marriage is not a condemnation to unhappiness but a noble tragedy one bears rather than deny a vow to God. The merits, prayers, and sufferings of one spouse can be passed on to the other.
