Covering the Four Last Things, this talk on Death and Judgement is the forty fourth in a series of lectures on the Catholic Catechism recorded in 1965 by Archbishop Fulton J Sheen in the privacy of his own study and first broadcast under the title 'Life is Worth Living'. A master communicator, Fulton Sheen recorded this insightful overview of the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church.
Man has a soul that is spiritual and immortal. We die because of original sin. If there were no sin, there would be no death. The principal reason we fear death is that we are not prepared for it. By dying daily through mortification, we rehearse. We will be judged at the moment of death in the particular judgment, and we will be judged on the last day in the general judgment. When the soul leaves the body at death, it does not leave the body forever. At the resurrection of the dead, the soul will have a body corresponding to the spiritual condition of the soul.
