Covering the Four Last Things, this talk on Hell is the forty seventh in a series of lectures on the Catholic Catechism recorded in 1965 by Archbishop Fulton J Sheen in the privacy of his own study and first broadcast under the title 'Life is Worth Living'. A master communicator, Fulton Sheen recorded this insightful overview of the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church.
Few people today believe in the devil or hell. The basic reason is that they disbelieve in freedom and responsibility. Those in a state of mortal sin have within themselves the seed of hell. Souls go to hell because they refuse to love. The punishment corresponding to turning away from God is the most terrible of all pains because that is the loss of God Himself. The souls in hell hate themselves. Hell is a place where there is no love.
