Discussing the nature of Miracles and Divine Intervention in the world, this is the seventh in a series of lectures on the Catholic Catechism recorded in 1965 by Archbishop Fulton J Sheen in the privacy of his own study. A master communicator, Fulton Sheen recorded this insightful overview of the teaching of the Holy Catholic Church.
Miracles are not a violation of the laws of nature. God is conveying His power to the forces of nature. Our Lord worked many miracles as signs to show that He was the One who was promised. They certified that God’s revelation of Christ as His divine Son was true. These miracles were performed where they could be witnessed. They were inseparable from person of Christ. Eliminating them from His life would destroy His identity and the Gospels. The most important of the miracles was the Resurrection. What is astounding is that the enemies of Jesus anticipated His Resurrection (by sealing the tomb and sending guards to watch) while His followers did not.
